The purpose of our Reach Across AMerica Program is to replicate the successful Rural AMerica program in order to provide free dental, vision, and medical care for the un- and under-insured, medically underserved, impoverished population across the United States via expeditions staffed by our volunteer corps of medical professionals and support personnel. This Program seeks to address the immediate healthcare needs of thousands of Americans living in both rural and urban areas. Most of the people we reach are either the working poor, who have no insurance or are unable to afford their insurance deductible, or the homeless. In our recent clinics we have seen an increase in the newly jobless and uninsured families who are otherwise unable to access services like those available at RAM clinics.

Each two-day expedition, for both the Rural and Reach Across AMerica Programs, sees on average between 700-1500 patients. Remote Area Medical® depends entirely upon community collaboration where our medical expeditions are held and goes only where we have been invited.

Throughout the US, RAM volunteers provide free care to tens of thousands of uninsured or underinsured people every year. Together, we can launch a nationwide effort that will relieve the pain and suffering of hundreds of thousands – and someday millions – more.

Remote Area Medical® operated its first RAM clinic in Oklahoma in July 2010. During planning for the clinic, local coordinators also worked under the guidance and direction of Remote Area Medical Foundation to create an official RAM Oklahoma Affiliate. RAM Oklahoma will eventually be able to address many of the dental, vision, and medical needs of residents across the state by conducting RAM clinics in Oklahoma several times each year. RAM also returned to California in 2010 and 2011, operating clinics in Los Angeles as well as in Sacramento and Oakland.

Managers of the Reach Across AMerica program coordinated with local organizers in Alabama to conduct free vision clinics to address the needs of those who were affected by the devastation of tornadoes that tore through the Southeast during the spring of 2011. RAM delivered supplies & equipment and operated vision clinics in the towns of Ider and Phil Campbell, AL in May of this year.

Most recently, Remote Area Medical® operated a clinic in Chicago at Malcolm X College, the first RAM clinic in Illinois, and from there travelled to South Dakota to provide free healthcare services to members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

With the enduring support of donors and volunteers, Remote Area Medical® can continue to Reach Across AMerica, providing free dental, vision, and medical care to folks in desperate need of those services.
